Spark Global Limited reports:
Recently, Morning Brew and Harris Poll released a survey on which companies people are more likely to buy AR/VR devices from. A survey of nearly 2,000 people found that users generally prefer companies like Apple and Google over Facebook when buying AR/VR devices.
The survey asked: If you were to buy an AR/VR device, which company would it be from? The survey was conducted among 2010 U.S. adults in June 2021.
The results showed that consumers preferred Apple’s AR/VR devices over Facebook’s, with 35 percent choosing Apple as their top choice compared to Facebook’s 5 percent. In addition to Apple, companies such as Google, Samsung, Amazon and Microsoft were also mentioned more than Facebook.
In July 2021, Facebook is working on the Oculus Quest 2 and Series, which it estimates will sell about 4 million units in North America alone. Although it has kept the name “Oculus” as its brand name, since Last August, Oculus users must have a Facebook account to use the headset properly. In the same month, Facebook changed the name of the Oculus developer event from “Oculus Connect” to “Facebook Connect” and unified the name of the AR/ VR-related team as “Facebook Reality Labs.”
Morning Brew described the move as “getting consumers to see the Oculus family as part of the Facebook family,” but said that “explicitly putting the Oculus family under Facebook could backfire,” which is not the first time we’ve seen this happen.
Apple was clearly the most popular company in the survey — while it hasn’t officially announced any XR devices, apple has long been rumored to be working on VR headsets and AR glasses, and CEO Tim Cook has publicly said THAT AR is “very important” to the company’s future.
