In March 2021, Facebook unveiled plans to build two undersea cables between the Asia-Pacific region and North America. The two undersea cables, named Echo and Bifrost, will connect Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Guam and the west coast of North America. They are expected to be up and running as soon as 2024. In addition to Facebook, several telecom operators are involved.

Google and Facebook have announced plans to build a new undersea optical cable called Apricot, foreign media reported.
