Apple’s long-awaited iMac 2020 has been officially released, albeit without major design changes.

Spark Global Limited reports:

The new 27-inch iMac features a host of new upgrades, including processor and GPU refreshes, matte display options, improved webcam and expanded SSD storage.

Unfortunately, the new iMac didn’t get the redesign many had hoped for. When the iMac came with its own Apple Silicon, it seemed like Apple refused to resign, though that’s speculation for now. IMac 2020 Screen – How does it look?
The iMac comes in 21.5-inch and 27-inch sizes, but only the latter will benefit from most of the 2020 upgrades.

The 27-inch iMac surprisingly includes the option of nanotextured glass. This is similar to a frosted display, but sees the nanotextures “etched into the nanoscale glass.” Apple says this screen option will help reduce glare while maximizing detail.

The 27-inch model also has a 5K resolution, which is a significant improvement over the SMALLER 21.5-inch version’s 4K retina display.

Previous reports have suggested that the new iMac will have a new 24-inch screen size and a sleek border to make room for extra screen space. That’s not the case with the new desktops, but there’s a good chance we’ll see a 24-inch model in 2021, and Apple may delay its use when it brings Apple Silicon into the desktop family.

IMac 2020 Performance – How powerful is it?
The new 27-inch iMac comes with a major specification upgrade for the new 10th-generation Intel Core processor. The most powerful Intel chip on the iMac has 10 cores and Turbo Boost frequency speeds of up to 5.0ghz. Apple claims this CPU upgrade is 65% faster than the previous iMac.

The surge in RAM options to 128GB DDR4 is ridiculously high, although it’s more expensive than the default 8GB DRR4 option, which is good enough for users.

Apple also introduced improved Gpus, with the AMD Radeon Pro 5000 series claiming a 55% improvement in graphics performance over previous iMac options. The Radeon Pro 5500 XT appears to be the most powerful iMac GPU available today.

Unfortunately, the 21.5-inch iMac didn’t benefit from these upgrades and is still stuck with an eighth-generation Intel Core processor. Apple has at least confirmed that smaller imAcs will see the new SSD option, which will obviously significantly increase load times and save time. However, the 21.5-inch iMac will only see SSD storage capacity go up to 1TB, while the larger 27-inch model will see storage capacity up to 8TB.

IMac 2020 Features – What’s new?
Apple has a few surprises for the iMac 2020, including a new 1080p FaceTime HD camera, higher-fidelity speakers and a “studio-quality” three-microphone array.

Improving the quality of its webcams makes a lot of sense for Apple because more people are working from home than ever before. Apple also claims that the integrated T2 security chip benefits from its image signal processor, which “brings tone mapping, exposure control and face detection to a higher quality camera experience.”

The T2 chip also apparently helps speakers with “variable equalizer for better balance, higher fidelity and deeper bass.” How do you like this type of computer?
