LG announced today that it has partnered with Swedish manufacturer Assa Abloy Entrance Systems to develop automatic sliding doors with transparent OLED displays. Aimed at businesses and business users, the colorful doors will be better able to greet customers, communicate with employees or display advertisements.
LG has been in the transparent display business for some time. We saw a series of transparent displays early last year, and now we are seeing the real world use of these panels.
In August, LG announced that its transparent displays were used in subway car Windows in Beijing and Shenzhen, China, while Panasonic and Xiaomi actually use LG panels in their transparent OLED TVS.
In addition, Samsung, another major Display maker in South Korea, has tried to make transparent OLED displays in the past, but the Korea Herald reported in 2016 that the company had stopped production of the technology.
LG’s announcement doesn’t say much about when these high-end sliding doors with screens will be available to businesses, but given that transparent OLED technology is already being deployed, they shouldn’t be long from decorating the world’s most luxurious shopping malls.
