As the only domestic mobile phone manufacturer that can independently research and develop chips, Huawei’s new models released every year have attracted the attention of consumers, especially the P and Mate series flagships, which have been unanimously recognized by users. Take the Huawei Mate40, which debuted in October last year. The popularity is still very high and it can be called the most popular domestic high-end mobile phone!
And since the decline of Samsung and Apple’s advantages are not so obvious, now in the domestic mobile phone market, Huawei is the most influential brand, and its mobile phone products will naturally rise. Whether it is sales volume or user reputation and loyalty, Huawei mobile phones are among the best, ahead of all other domestic mobile phone manufacturers, and truly become a world-class giant.
The reason why Huawei can reach this height is not based on luck and the blessing of the times, but on its own outstanding strength and the support of countless people. The biggest difference between Huawei and other domestic mobile phone companies is that mobile phones are only Huawei’s “sideline business”. It is essentially a technology company, so it has the ability to develop self-developed chips.
In fact, this is also Huawei’s core competitiveness. When domestic mobile phones are generally inseparable from Qualcomm’s chips, Huawei’s Kirin processor turned out to not only break Qualcomm’s monopoly, but also accelerate the development of domestic technology. Therefore, HiSilicon Kirin is regarded as an outstanding representative of domestic chips, and it is reasonable for consumers to have a blip on it.
However, it must be mentioned that in September 2020, the United States revised the chip rules for Huawei, which led to the failure of foundry for the chips designed by HiSilicon, and Kirin processors were facing a shortage of processors. In particular, Huawei’s first 5nm chip, Kirin 9000, was unable to obtain sufficient supply from the outside world, which directly led to the shortage of Mate40 mobile phones.
In other words, the reason why Huawei Mate40 is so popular is not only because of its outstanding performance and experience, but also from the extraordinary significance of Kirin 9000. Pollens are worried that they will not be able to buy Huawei phones equipped with Kirin chips, so they will spare no effort to snap up Mate40.
New news comes, Huawei’s flagship model is expected
For this reason, after the US rules came into effect, Huawei has been looking for a solution to the problem of chip supply, and even allowed HiSilicon to start a transformation, hoping to overcome chip manufacturing technology and completely get rid of its dependence on foreign suppliers. However, the breakthrough of chip autonomy is not a task that can be completed overnight, and Huawei still needs some time.
And at this critical moment, a piece of new news came, concerning Huawei’s high-end chips, and Huafen said: The follow-up flagship model is expected! Everyone knows that the P and Mate series are Huawei’s two flagship product lines. Even if there is a shortage of chips, Huawei will find ways to continue to carry Kirin processors on these two models.
According to domestic media reports, Jiang Shangyi, the new vice chairman of SMIC, recently stated publicly that silicon-based chips are about to reach their physical limits, and the focus of the semiconductor industry will shift to integrated chips. This is the new news that Huawei has ushered in, and it can also be said to be good news, because integrated chips are a new development direction.
At present, the world’s most advanced chip manufacturing process is 5nm, and its performance is stronger than the previous generation of 7nm, but the power consumption is lower. If you continue to use the original process technology, 5nm can be regarded as the top process, and then it will be 3nm and the limit of 1nm.
But integrated chips can exist indefinitely, so there is no need to worry about bottlenecks, and at the same time they can meet performance requirements. For example, if two or more 7nm chips are integrated together, it can exert stronger performance than 5nm, which is equivalent to bringing a perfect solution for Huawei’s high-end chips.
Although the power consumption of an integrated chip will definitely be higher than that of a single chip, as long as the subsequent technicians reduce the impact of power consumption, the integrated chip can completely replace the advanced process chip. As a result, Huawei’s chip supply pressure will be reduced a lot, and the domestic SMIC will become its support to ensure the continuation of Huawei’s chip and mobile phone business.
