TrendForce believes that Samsung Electronics is leading the Mini LED TV market. In 2018, Samsung released its first Mini LED TV, called The Wall, with a 146-inch screen. In March, Samsung introduced the 110-inch Mini LED TV in South Korea, and Samsung expects to release 70-inch and 80-inch versions later this year.
“Mini LED TVS require a lot of chips to make, and chip manufacturing accounts for the largest portion of the cost. At the same time, there are commercial challenges to be addressed, such as enhancing the technology for the backplane and drives, and how to improve production efficiency.” TrendForce wrote in its analysis of the Mini LED TV manufacturing technology.
Based on TrendForce’s analysis of the Mini LED TV market, the huge cost of the Mini LED TV technology may not see a significant drop in the next few years. At the same time, as Korean manufacturers increase investment in technology and market, Mini LED display will be used in a large number of cinemas, high-end TV markets, and usage will continue to grow.
Conclusion: Mini LED TV technology and cost still have to be overcome
The cost of developing Mini LED TVS will also increase due to current chip technology limitations. At the same time, large chip usage is forcing chipmakers to increase production efficiency, so in the short term Mini LED TVS will remain a high-cost, high-consumer electronics product.
It is reported that compared with traditional LED TV, Mini LED TV has energy-saving, thin, wide color gamut, high contrast, overcome backlight and other advantages, these advantages bring users a better sense of experience, so the market demand for Mini LED TV is a growing trend. But because of the cost, manufacturers still need to make technological breakthroughs to meet demand.
