Beautiful and smarter, Sonos Arc: How to define home audio?

Beautiful and smarter, Sonos Arc: How to define home audio?-spark global limited

Speaking of sound, what do you think of?

Is it the sound of birds singing and water between nature, water and mountains, or the noisy alarm clock at 8 o’clock every day, or the “City of Philharmonic” after headphones.

Speaking of audio, what do you think of first?

Is it that Xiaoai classmate who is now close to the people, or is it a group of established manufacturers such as Sony and Bose, or is it the HomePod that focuses on sound but is only auxiliary?

The brand I want to mention today is Sonos, an established company that was established in 2002 and is mainly engaged in integrated wireless smart audio, smart home theater audio, and wireless smart audio connector equipment. Although created for music lovers, Sonos has focused the company’s development on the home wireless smart audio system and advocated the pursuit of a free home music lifestyle, which will undoubtedly become a subdivision and benchmarking challenge.

It just happened that the author had just finished decorating the house not long ago, and by chance, I started with Sonos Arc whispering gallery speakers. So how does it perform?

[Thanks to Sina Zhongce for this evaluation opportunity]

Appearance: simple, fresh and versatile

The first impression of unpacking is big and heavy, the weight of that kind of expensive money (dog head saves life). The white body of the whole body looks very integrated, and it matches well with the wood-colored furniture in my home. It will not be aesthetically fatigued after a long time.

The product size is 87*1142*116(mm), and it is recommended to be used with a TV cabinet over 1.8 meters.

Aside from the slender cylindrical design language, the most attractive appearance of this product is the 270-degree seamless curved grille. This design language pursuing details allows it to take into account the unity of function and appearance. Whether it is a simple Nordic decoration style or a light and luxurious pastoral North Americanism, Sonos Arc can perfectly adapt.

In the middle of the front is the SONOS brand logo. The slightly raised characters create an unassuming brand recognition, low-key and individual.

In this logo design, there is also a small LED light to guide the operation, which is very friendly to novices

The touch buttons in the middle of the top continue the integrated design language of the fuselage. From left to right, they are: volume down, play\pause, volume up, but these two volume up and down buttons have no obvious identification signs. You may not be able to figure out its function at first. Of course, it is not only a volume control button, but also the function of cutting songs by sliding, which is easy to use.

From the actual operation, the three buttons are sensitive to touch, and the response is also very timely.

The top right end is the microphone mute button and indicator light, which are mainly designed to protect user privacy. Outside of China, it can be used for voice control of Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, but it is a pity that this function is temporarily unavailable in China.

On the back is a network cable interface and the only physical button (mainly used when connecting to the machine).

There are two screw holes on the back, which can fix the machine on the wall, further liberating the living room space.

The included accessories are very simple, only one fiber optic adapter cable, one HDMI cable and one power cord, and the manual. The reason why it is different from the traditional audio system which has a lot of wires, Sonos Arc can be easily connected via WiFi, saving time and effort.

The installation part is very simple. After plugging in the power cord, you only need to connect an HDMI cable to the TV, and you can control the volume through the TV’s remote control. If your TV doesn’t have an HDMI eARC interface, don’t worry too much. Arc also randomly presented HDMI eARC to optical fiber accessories, which can be directly connected to the TV optical fiber, and can support up to 5.0.2 channels.

Network connection: not so easy to use

It is worth mentioning that in the middle of this year, Sonos released a new App software. The new generation of products represented by Arc can only be used on this platform. When downloading, please pay attention to distinguish it.

The initial setup, according to the guidelines, one step at a time, is easy to use.

The whole connection process is still very smooth here, but pay attention to the WiFi settings here, here WiFi prompts a successful connection.

When the app is installed, the homepage interface is not displayed. At this time, the background prompts the software update, but after a few updates, it continues to fail. I paid attention to the official WeChat account and dialed the manual customer service. The former is the guidance method does not work. The line has been busy. Just as the author was unable to do anything, I finally got through the manual customer service the next day, and the main reasons for the failure of the update are roughly analyzed: 1. The localization of foreign products is not complete; 2. The author’s home The router is two-frequency in one, but the product only supports the 2.4GHz WiFi frequency band. If you also use a multi-frequency in one router at home, remember to separate a 2.4GHz WiFi, but even so, the entire update and installation process It still takes more time than the app said, and I hope the follow-up team can improve.

Sonos Trueplay tuning: small space, “big” sound

After setting up the App, the first step is the Sonos Trueplay tuning process. Trueplay can measure the sound reflections on walls, furniture and other surfaces in the room, and then fine-tune your Sonos speakers to ensure that no matter where the speakers are placed , You can enjoy the wonderful sound. The enhanced Trueplay™ tuning technology in Sonos Arc not only optimizes the sound effects for the unique acoustic characteristics of the room, but can even achieve precise positioning by calibrating the height channel to ensure a full range of audio and video experience. The details are worthy of praise. The entire tuning process is about 3 minutes, easy to use.

In the Sonos App, the author’s favorite point is to bring together many mainstream music media platforms at home and abroad.

And there are many music resource platforms supported, such as Apple Music, Douban FM, Kuwo Music, QQ Music, NetEase Cloud, Himalaya, etc. It allows us to use one App to enjoy the services of multiple music apps, without having to switch music software back and forth because of copyright issues and then find the music we want to listen to. This is very practical and user-friendly. In addition, Sonos Arc also supports Apple’s AirPlay and QQ Music QPlay wireless delivery functions, which can be delivered under the same Wi-Fi environment, which is convenient and easy to use.

Sound quality: sound is on the scene, for you

One of the highlights of Sonos Arc is its full support for Dolby Atmos®. Dolby Atmos breaks through the traditional 5.1 and 7.1 channel concepts and can combine the content of the movie to present dynamic sound effects, and create more realistic sound effects from far to near. In addition, Sonos Arc also added Grammy and Oscar-winning master tuning, fully optimized 3D sound effects, users can experience a further auditory experience while watching video content.

As the first product to support Dolby Atmos, Sonos Arc is also luxurious enough in performance configuration. It has 11 high-performance speaker units, including 8 mid-bass drive units and 3 tweeter drive units, each with its own class D digital amplifier. Two sets of speakers emit upward sound, using five-phased array channels to accurately transmit sounds from different directions to the ears at the same time, realizing the virtual 5.0.2 Dolby Atmos effect, allowing users to experience the theater at home Level of audiovisual effects.

In addition, Sonos Arc can be combined with other Sonos products, such as Sonos Sub, Play:5, One SL and other products, to simply and flexibly component home theaters, bringing a more surround and immersive audio-visual experience, but tens of thousands of The package price may need to be carefully considered.

So what improvements will Dolby Atmos bring when we actually use it? The author first opened an ancient costume drama that I was chasing recently. The first feeling is that the sound levels are distinct, and the human voices and horseshoes can be clearly distinguished, as if you are among them, and it is not an exaggeration to be immersive. , Especially the speakers that come with the TV, this improvement is quite obvious.

When listening to the Live version of music, paired with Sonos Arc, the sense of presence is stronger, the sound of all kinds of instruments is clear, the high frequency is weak, the bass is calm, and the cheers of the audience are also different. The sequence is followed, coupled with Sonos Arc’s vocal enhancement technology, and the scene is full.
