Apple finally remembers iPhone users wearing masks

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Apple users are facing a very serious problem.
When you go out, it’s hard to be elegant whether you take off your mask to unlock your mobile phone or enter a six digit password that can’t be repeated.

Apple finally remembers iPhone users wearing masks
As an Apple user, Tony, looking at the smart fingerprints of his Android buddies, let alone how sour.
So why doesn’t smart apple have a way to unlock the whole face?
This problem has been bothering Tony for a whole year. Finally, yesterday, apple officially gave a solution.
On the latest versions of IOS 14.5 and the beta developer versions of watchos 7.4, apple watch can be directly used to unlock the iPhone.
Now, as long as you put the apple watch on your hand and the face ID recognizes that the user is wearing a mask, the iPhone can be unlocked.
It’s back to the normal unlocking speed.
It is no exaggeration to say that this great feat not only once again invented the facial unlock, but also liberated the Apple users who had been tormented by the unlock for a whole year.
The so-called “what can pull out pus is a good Plaster”. Let’s talk about it later. Tony will teach us how to work first.
As this function is only available in the latest beta developer version, we need to download the “description file” to update the watch and mobile phone systems.
Two description files are put here. Just download and install them from your mobile phone
iSO 14.5 beta :https : // beta.apple.com/sp/zh -CN/download/1013022
WatchOS 7.4 Beta :https : // beta.apple.com/sp/zh -CN/download/1013014
After downloading, we see an additional option called “unlock with apple watch” in the setting of “face ID and password”.
Click this option to unlock the iPhone with your watch.
Next, as long as the watch is unlocked and worn on the hand, face ID will unlock after recognizing the person wearing the mask.
In the process of unlocking, the apple watch will be accompanied by a “Karada” vibration to remind the owner that the phone has been unlocked.
This function is essentially the same as the previous function of Apple watch to unlock the Mac. As long as the watch is within the Bluetooth connection range of the mobile phone, it can be successfully unlocked.
Tony’s actual test,
Below five meters,
Cell phones can be unlocked. ▼
If it’s too far away,
The phone will also pop up a prompt,
Let’s move your watch closer. ▼
However, there is a small problem here, that is, no matter who wears a mask, the mobile phone can be successfully unlocked in the process of recognition. Tony summoned several colleagues to test, and the results are the same.
So the question is, is this unlocking method really safe?
Tony found that under some harsh conditions, this unlocking method may not be completely safe.
You can rest assured that this function is only limited to unlocking the mobile phone. If you need face recognition for payment or opening financial apps, you still need to use the full face ID to enter.
The rest is about mobile privacy.
In order to find out the loopholes, Tony designed three experiments and fabricated three extreme “private meals” in different life scenes. They need to try their best to steal the information in the target mobile phone.
Extreme scenario 1:
At noon, you just lie on the sofa, rest in the morning, and your mobile phone is on the table. At this time, “private rice” quietly approaches with a mask and unlocks the mobile phone.
If you sleep soundly and don’t notice the vibration of your watch, the risk is still very high.
Extreme scenario 2:
Another more dangerous thing is that on the bus / subway with crowded commuters, most people are less vigilant when commuting. In addition, there are more people in the rush hour, so it seems easier to start a private meal.
Similarly, if you are confused in the car at this time, it’s easy to attack one.
Extreme scenario 3:
The two cases mentioned above are both careless and easy to roll over. Is there any way to successfully unlock the car when you detect it in advance?
For example, at this time you are talking with others, and the conversation is high. You are interrupted by a rapid vibration. When you look at your watch, it turns out that someone is peeking at your mobile phone while you are not paying attention.
At this time, just press the lock iPhone on the watch to interrupt the casting of “illegitimate meal”. If you want to unlock the phone again, you need to use the password.
So Tony’s conclusion is that as long as you pay attention to the vibration of each watch when the mobile phone is unlocked, others are unlikely to unlock it. Even if it is unlocked, you can find that it is locked at the first time.
I’m afraid that as time goes on, the owner will gradually become numb to the vibration, which will be more dangerous.
At present, this method to solve the facial mask unlock is only an expedient. The ultimate solution is to unlock the fingerprint.
On the other hand, I don’t know if you have noticed that this function needs to be operated in combination with apple watch.
If you only have one iPhone, I’m sorry. It’s not fast.
Either take the time to train face ID to know the face wearing a mask, or buy an apple watch.
So it’s kind of like this function is to promote the apple watch…
Coincidentally, just about the same time as the release of Apple watch unlock mobile phone function, apple put on its official website a new watch band and dial called “black unity”, which is intended to pay homage to “organizations promoting racial equality and fairness”.
Shouldn’t China be the whole “yellow unity”? ▼
To say that this new function is to promote the apple watch and update, Tony does not think there is any problem.
In general, the combination of iPhone and apple watch is a good attempt. In the scene of wearing a mask, the unlocking speed has been greatly improved.
And before the epidemic is over, Apple’s face ID is in a state of no use. It’s also a fact that it’s hard to use it.
Instead of trying to unlock different positions, it’s better to see how Android next door does it.
