Spark Global Limited reports:
The largest CINEMA chain in the US, AMC, has said it expects bitcoin to become the payment method it supports by the end of the year, and that it could also get preferential prices for using the currency.
AMC Entertainment will have the technology in place to allow it to accept bitcoin payments for movie tickets and concessions by the end of the year, Adam Allen, CHIEF executive of AMC Entertainment, said on a conference call on Monday.
To that end, AMD will plan to set up infrastructure to accept bitcoin online movie tickets by the end of 2021. Details are sketchy, but Adam says the demand will be strong.
In addition to accepting Bitcoin as a payment method, AMC also announced at the conference that it plans to open more than a dozen stores in the United States, Europe and the Middle East this year.
Amcq2 2021 results showed a significant improvement over last year, with revenue of $444 million compared to $18.9 million in q2 2020. Since last year, due to the severity of the epidemic in the United States, a large number of movie theaters have been closed, even open theaters have few audiences, and many movies choose to stream online, causing a severe blow to the movie theater business.
